Ten’s The Masked Singer to premiere on Monday 23 September

Ten’s local version of The Masked Singer will hit consumers’ screens at 7:30pm on Monday, 23 September.

Speaking to Mumbrella earlier this year, Ten’s chief sales officer Rod Prosser said the show should appeal to the network’s target demographic of those aged under 50.

“[Engagement is] really our proposition, that we want to create this virtual water-cooler where people are talking about it the following day but also many platforms when it’s on. That sits really nicely with our under 50, young and young-at-heart audience. For us from a commercial lens we love shows like Masked Singer. Notwithstanding, the chances to integrate with it are really good,” he said.

Ten’s chief content officer Beverley McGarvey was similarly enthusiastic about the program, previously telling Mumbrella it fits with Ten’s ambitions to be creative and innovative with its programming.

“The most exciting thing for us at the moment is obviously something like Masked Singer because it is properly original and it’s also a bit bonkers,” she said.

And now, with the premiere date revealed, Ten is teasing consumers with who could be behind the mask.

“While we can’t officially neigh (oops!), we mean name, our unbelievable Unicorn, we can reveal her clue is: “I have been the princess, but never the queen,” a release from the network said.

Ten has released a clue about the identity of the ‘Unicorn’

The show’s judging panel is made up of radio personality Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, American actress Lindsay Lohan, performer and singer Dannii Minogue, and comedian and broadcaster Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes.

Ten said, the judges are perplexed by the unicorn’s identity.

“It seems our crack unit of powerhouse detectives, Lindsay Lohan, Dannii Minogue, Jackie O and Dave Hughes, are just as inquisitive and perplexed about her identity as we are. While Jackie O ponders whether the rose petals in the Unicorns clue package are of any significance, Dave wonders if they are a nod to the 1999 film American Beauty,” Ten said.

The show is hosted by Osher Günsberg, whose commitments with the network already include hosting duties for The Bachelor, The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise.

Günsberg also hosted Australian Idol on Ten between 2003 and 2009.
