Terry Kennedy departs Big Sports Breakfast after 18 years
Sky Sports Radio’s Big Sports Breakfast has lost host Terry Kennedy who is leaving after 18 years.
The announcement:
Terry Kennedy to depart Big Sports Breakfast
Terry Kennedy’s 18 years driving the Big Sports Breakfast show on Sky Sports Radio has come to an end
Kennedy, or “TK” to his friends, viewers and listeners said the timing was right to finish-up on the eve of Australia’s richest race, the TAB Everest, where he plans to celebrate his marathon stint behind the microphone along with more than 40,000 of his “mates” at Royal Randwick.
“I’ve achieved everything I wanted when I started out on the program, it’s been a wonderful but weird existence getting up in the middle of the night, it’s simply time to live a more normal life,” he said.
Kennedy joined the program on the then 2KY sitting beside Richard Freedman, then formed a formidable partnership with former Aussie test opener Michael Slater for a decade, before hosting the past two years with rugby league legend Laurie Daley.“
When I first joined from the world of TV, I honestly thought two years of early morning starts would see me out, but I enjoyed the banter with my hosts, experts, sporting heroes and the listeners so much I stayed,” he said.
Kennedy said breakfast radio takes a toll on your lifestyle and, with his contract ending at the end of December, he has opted for a quick goodbye before moving onto other opportunities.
“I’d love to have found more winners for the viewers and listeners over the year, but I’ll leave them with one final tip – Pierata to win the TAB Everest,” he said.
Tabcorp EGM Media & International, Darren Pearce, praised Kennedy’s passion and contribution: “I’d like to commend TK’s dedication to 18 years in breakfast radio and for leaving a great legacy for the BSB to build on into the future.”
BSB regular Dave Stanley will move into the co-hosting chair alongside Laurie Daley while plans are finalised for an exciting new BSB line-up in 2020.

Hi
I’ve been listening to BSB for over 15 years and I couldn’t believe what I was hearing on Friday that TK was leaving. I meet TK last summer with cricket Sutherland V Manly my son playing against TK son and we talked about the show and how good it’s going with Laurie on the show. TK is one quality bloke and I was honoured to have meet him. Please pass on my all the best for the future to TK and thanks for laughs along the way. He left the show in a strong future .
Cheers
Scott ( Ralph) from Engadine

I’d like to wish TK all the best in the future. I have listened to the Big Sports Breakfast for over 20 years. I’ve also been to the Lunch many times & it has been a very enjoyable part of my life. As a retired sales rep I used to listen in the car every morning. Every Friday I would leave home in Newcastle at 5.30 to drive to Sydney. Thanks to TK & BSB. I was able to stay awake & alert during the drive. I also told my 2 sons about the BSB in the early days & they became huge fans as well. Thanks again TK for the happy memories

Won’t be the same without TK he’s off hand remarks aren’t even understood by some of his colleagues I’ve heard a few replacements thrown up , but I feel Dave Stanley would be a fine replacement considering it’s a racing channel just hope it doesn’t take away from his regular appearances that are always so funny Did someone say Robbie lol

Thank Heavens for that – I firmly believe everyone has a use by date and TK reached his 10 years ago! May well be a nice guy in person, I don’t know – but he is short on real knowledge of sports and always takes the populist line often without applying any critical thought to the subject whilst abruptly dismisssing alternate opinions. I switched off a long time ago when he and slater were boring everyone with their conceited attitudes, and now enjoy daley and stanley not walking over listeners. They too will have a use by date but are for now refreshing to listen to.

The ordinary mans take on sport. The voice of the common man. Very sensible assessment of conflicting topics and at times cracked me up with his little one liners.
Definitely top class journalist, announcer & entertainer. Difficult to replace. On the right track with Dave Stanley.

Best wishes for the future TK.
I first met TK when he was a young boy when I visited Franks place with my best friend the late Geoff Kennedy. And like TK was avid golfer at New Brighton.
I have listen to the BSB since it was first aired. He and Richard used to do a funny little segment together which on one occasion performed at riverside oaks golf club.
Anyway enough from me you enjoy your new adventures.
Best wishes Brian (puss & boots).
