The Australian Financial Review names its new editor

The Australian Financial Review (AFR) has named the journalism and reporting expert who will take on the role of its editor.

As reported by the AFR on Monday afternoon, Cosima Marriner has been selected to serve as the publication’s editor, taking over from current editor, Fiona Buffini.

Marriner is a veteran in the Australian newspaper reporting scene, beginning her career in mid 2000 as a business reporter at the Sydney Morning Herald, according to her LinkedIn.

Over the past two decades, Marriner has worked various reporting, writing and editorial roles in Australia and the United Kingdom, serving at well-known outlets such as The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Sun-Herald and more.

Her promotion will see her move on from her current managing editor position at the AFR.

The news about Marriner’s new career milestone comes not long after it was reported that the AFR’s editor-in-chief, Michael Stutchbury, was retiring from the publication, opening the doors for Nine’s ex-managing director of publishing, James Chessell, to take up the reins.
