The Block delivers weekly win for Nine as Seven entertainment shows languish

The Block, a strong start for Doctor Doctor and Seven’s continued battle to find an audience for Hell’s Kitchen has vaulted Nine to a win in week 33 of the OzTAM ratings.

Preliminary figures for the week gave Nine a 21.3% share ahead of Seven’s 18.3% and Ten’s 11.9% – behind the ABC’s share of 12.2%.

The Block dominated the top 10 during the week taking the top rating show on Sunday night with 1.285m, while audiences for the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday episodes all cracked the 1m mark across the five capital cities.

Having dominated the start of the year with shows such as My Kitchen Rules, Seven struggled to make an impact on the top 20 shows of the week outside of news and current affairs.

Home and Away, coming in at number 25 with a five city metro audience of 695,000, was the best-performing of Seven’s entertainment shows, while it was left to the Sunday night news to top Seven’s shows for the week with 1.153m.

With Seven struggling on the back of the poor performance of Hell’s Kitchen, which managed a best outing on Monday with an audience of just 607,000, Nine is celebrating some key demographic wins, with a 28.6% share in 25-54, and a 27% share in 16-39.

The Bachelor on Ten delivered the best ratings of the week for the network, with the Thursday night show drawing 787,000 and the Wednesday show 737,000.

Overnight there was some slightly better news for Seven, with its news at 6pm the top-rated show of the evening with 803,000.

Nine’s news at 6pm attracted 755,000 while the ABC’s traditional Saturday night line-up of Father Brown, Shetland and Gardening Australia filled the remaining slots in the top six.

Australia’s thrashing at the hands of the All Blacks in the Bledisloe Cup on Ten drew 371,000 across the five cities.

Nine’s best show of the night outside of the news was Getaway with 329,000.
