National pet retailer PETstock and brands including Big Dog Pet Foods, Antinol Plus, Vitapet Credelio PLUS and Buddy & Bell are sponsoring the inaugural The Dog Down Under competition and Television series airing on Channel 10 later this year.

Entries are now open for pet owners to enter their dog, or a dog they know, that deserves recognition for their special talent or skill, an act of heroism, sporting prowess or work within the community.

The search is also on to find Australia’s oldest dog to potentially take the reins from Australia’s oldest dog on record, Bluey the Australian Cattle Dog, that once also held the official Guinness World Records ‘Oldest Dog’ title. With a total prize pool of more than $28,000 up for grabs, and the chance to star on national television, competition will be fierce (pun intended!).

The Dog Down Under campaign is hosted by Lara Shannon, leading Australian dog expert, author and creator of Channel 10’s Pooches at Play and 7TWO’s Animal SOS Australia. Shannon will travel the country to meet with the finalists and winners from each of the five categories and share their stories in a five-part TV series to air on Channel 10 from 7 September 2024.

“I am so excited to hear about the amazing tales of courage, dedication, athletic skills and tireless work of our canine companions and to share their heart-warming stories with the nation in our television series later in the year,” Shannon says.

“It’s also fantastic to have some of Australia’s leading pet brands, along with Channel 10, collaborating on this project, to help us find those special canines that bring so much joy to our lives and deserve recognition for their sporting achievements, skills or talents, and those who are actively impacting and preserving human lives.

“I’m particularly hopeful that we will also uncover Australia’s oldest living dog and hear the secret to their long and happy life!”

The Dog Down Under campaign is being marketed primarily across Instagram and Facebook advertising, and brand partner communications, as well as Channel 10 and 10Play’s sharing a casting call shout out for applications.
