The Future Machine shares directing award
The Australian web series The Future Machine and its director and co-creator David Barker were amongst the 15 winners of the Outstanding Achievement in Direction award at the LA Web Series Festival.
“What we’re seeing here is the celebration of a creative and distribution revolution. Online entertainment is opening up a diverse range of programming, more than the traditional models of distribution allowed. And we’re about to see an explosion of web series here in Australia”, said Barker’s co-creator Matt Okine.
According to the festival’s executive director Michael Ajakwe, the LA Web Series Festival doesn’t subscribe to the “best of system expounded for decades by traditional media outlets, which can often become divisive”. He believes it’s possible to have more than one show or performance recognised: “The practice of exalting more than one does not diminish the category, but enhances it”.
The Future Machine is an eight-episode comedy series about two mates and “their consequential journey with the aid of a self-made time machine”. It was launched online in November 2010.
“Online content is a new frontier and Australia has been a little slow on the take-up, but we’re excited by what’s ahead,” added Okine.
