The Inspired Unemployed skewers perfume ads in ‘absurd’ new campaign

Born Bred Talent-signed comedy group, The Inspired Unemployed, have launched a new fragrance in partnership with Chemist Warehouse. Born Bred Creative, the talent agency’s creative arm, has unveiled the new product via a dramatic television commercial (TVC).

The large-scale TVC humorously parodies traditional high-end luxury fragrance advertisements, and the satirical nature of it aims to challenge norms and offer audiences a refreshed perspective on fragrance marketing.

Born Bred Creative worked with Taxi Films on the spot, and the agency also assisted the comedy group in designing the bottle and branding for ‘Inspiré by No. Emploi’. The design hopes to reflect the essence of The Inspired Unemployed’s irreverent humour, while creating a visually striking and memorable product.

Born Bred Talent and Creative’s founder, and manager of The Inspired Unemployed, Clare Winterbourn, said: “We are thrilled to be part of this innovative collaboration that seamlessly blends creativity, humour and social responsibility.

“‘Inspiré by No. Emploi’ is more than just a fragrance; it’s a testament to the power of imagination, creativity and compassion.”

Taxi Films’ writer, director and producer Justin McMillan, said: “Tonally, my intention was to create scenes in the film that appeared intentionally absurd, making it clear to the audience that it was a parody of a high-end fragrance commercial.

“Fortunately, the Inspired Unemployed brand of humour effortlessly transitions into the realm of a luxury perfume film,” he added.

In addition to the TVC, Born Bred Creative has developed a charity alignment initiative, which sees all proceeds from the fragrance sales directed towards helping Australians in need.

Organisations that help Aussies during Christmas time are encouraged to submit their stories, and a portion of sales will go to them in return.

“I truly admire that the boys are donating their profits from the perfume sales to charity, and it was a privilege to contribute my time and experience to help bring this campaign to life,” McMillan said.

The project marks a significant milestone for The Inspired Unemployed, who recently ventured into television with the launch of ‘Impractical Jokers’ on Paramount.

Based on the US format, the show sees the comedy group plunge themselves into everyday situations, all while getting told what to say via earpieces.

The ‘Inspiré by No. Emploi’ scent is available from 9 November at Chemist Warehouse.
