Thinkerbell nabs The Works’ Paul Swann as executive creative tinker

Managing partner of creative and strategy at The Works, Paul Swann, has departed the agency after more than seven years.

Swann will be moving to Thinkerbell as executive creative tinker.

Paul Swann has left The Works after seven years to join Thinkerbell

Swann joined The Works in 2012 as a creative partner and was promoted to managing partner in October last year.

Prior to The Works, Swann spent over seven years at Naked Communications, where he started out as communications strategist and later became head of ideas, then managing partner of creative.

Co-founder of Thinkerbell, Adam Ferrier, was also at Naked during Swann’s time there.

At Thinkerbell, Swann will be joining recent hire, Cath King, on the management team of the agency’s Sydney office.

Swann thanked the team the The Works, but said he was looking forward to working within Thinkerbell’s model.

“I couldn’t be more grateful to everyone at The Works for what’s been an incredibly enjoyable and rewarding seven years. It really is a great place to work and while I’m sad to leave I’m equally excited about a new challenge at Thinkerbell. You can’t help but be impressed with their trajectory over the last couple of years and the philosophy of ‘measured magic’ and bringing creative and media back together very much appeal to me,” Swann said.

Margie Reid, Thinkerbell managing partner, said having Swann join was “beyond exciting”.

“We’re building something special here as we continue to dissolve the boundaries between paid, owned and earned media, and of course between creative and media thinking. Paul’s background as a heavyweight creative, with someone who understands context is brilliant. He also happens to be a lovely bloke,” she said.

Ben Couzens, chief creative tinker, added: “We’ve achieved a lot since we started Thinkerbell and had a lot of fun in the process. We’re pumped to have Paul join us in Sydney to keep the momentum going.”

In July, former CEO of Big Red, Bridget Cleary, joined The Works as managing parter in Melbourne.

The Works’ clients include H&R Block, The Smith Family, and News Corp.

Thinkerbell’s clients include 13Cabs, Seafolly and Bega.
