Today beats Sunrise in Tuesday ratings

Nine’s Today struck a rare victory over Seven’s Sunrise in the Tuesday ratings, pulling in 370,000 breakfast time viewers, compared to Sunrise’s 353,000.

The show, which yesterday featured a $40,000 cash giveaway, did particularly well in Sydney, pulling in 124,000 viewers, according to preliminary overnight ratings from OzTam.

“No doubt the cash giveaway had a positive effect.  But the overall trend is that Today is continuing to grow, day in day out, and is gaining ground on Sunrise,” said Tom Malone, executive producer, Today & Weekend Today.

“Breakfast TV is all about momentum. And the momentum is with Today,” he claimed. “We don’t win nationally all the time, but we’re number one in Sydney and Melbourne, the country’s two largest advertising markets.”

However, Seven pointed out that Sunrise was now in its eighth consecutive year of national ratings leadership over Today.

Seven’s Australia’s Got Talent was the most watched show on the night with 1.815m, up marginally on last week’s 1.783m, and increasing its lead over Ten’s Masterchef, which slipped from 1.373m last Tuesday to 1.295m last night.

Seven won the night overall with 27.2% share, ahead of Ten’s 18.6% and Nine’s 15.8%.
