London and O’Loughlin

Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) have announced they are replacing its national official music countdown show The Bump to launch a new partnership with music identification service Shazam, called the Shazam Top 20.

The program will still be be hosted by Angus O’Loughlin, who hosted The Bump however, he will now be joined by Ash London as cohost of a program which will count down Australia’s most Shazamed songs based on a daily chart of songs Shazamed from consumer’s mobile device.

“This is the first radio show powered by Shazam technology which is used by over eight milion people.” Dave Cameron, head of Today Network at Southern Cross Austereo told Mumbrella.

“It will be interesting to see what happens (to the rankings.) It will be more progress because Shazam is built on music discovery and will be built on the most ‘shazamable’ tracks of the last 24 hours.”

“This is a very different model to what we’ve used before and there will be client opportunities absolutely, and they will be full integrated across the radio show, the app and the Shazam Top 20 website.”

“This is a radio show built for the smartphone.”

The radio network said the new show would have a wide range of live on-air content and client initiatives around the Shazam Top 20.

“This is a partnership between and SCA to create the nightly show,”said Steve Sos Shazam’s APAC sales director. “It will become a sponsorable opportunity.”

“This is a world first in that sense to partner with the leading network in Australia to broaden the brand and take Shazam into an area which seems very logical.”

Take 40 remains on air and is unaffected by the changes. Cameron declined to comment on the ongoing speculation about network signing Hamish and Andy to a major role with the network.

“Craig Bruce and Rhys Holleran have covered that off in recent weeks. There is nothing I can add,” said Cameron. “We don’t comment on speculation.”
