Today Tonight’s Monika Kos joins Ten

Today Tonight’s Perth host Monika Kos has joined the team at 10 News First in Perth.

The move follows Seven’s cancellation of the current affairs/news program.

Kos has taken up a role with Ten in Perth

It was unclear what both Kos and Adeialde Today Tonight host Rosanna Mangiarelli’s futures would be after the program was axed in both states. It has been running for 25 years, but the cancellation followed that of the east coast version of the format years prior. Mangiarelli has not yet announced her next move.

Kos will now present the weekday Ten bulletin with sports presenter Tim Gossage and weather presenter Michael Shultz.

Kos’ career spans more than 20 years at the helm of Today Tonight, and her move to Ten follows the announcement that long-time Perth host Narelda Jacobs is leaving to join the team at Studio 10.

“Narelda has been the face of 10 News First Perth for over a decade and I’m proud that she has been given this opportunity on Studio 10 to showcase her talent to the rest of Australia. As a fellow West Australian, it’s an honour to be filling her seat and to be entrusted with such an important role,” said Kos.

“I look forward to immersing myself in a newsroom that’s as enthusiastic and passionate about reporting issues that matter to Perth as I am. Whether reporting on local, interstate or international events, it will be a privilege to be part of a team that delivers them to you first. It’s a new chapter for me and I cannot wait to join the team.”

Jacobs will finish up Friday 13 December. She said she is happy the Perth newsdesk will be in safe hands.

“I’m so pleased to be handing over the baton to Monika, a journalist I’ve respected since I was a broadcasting student at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts. I sat in awe of her as she motivated my class to pursue a career in journalism. Over the years, she’s inspired generations of reporters and she’ll continue to help lead an experienced and talented newsroom at Ten.”

Kos and Jacobs

Ten’s Perth sales director and general manager, Paul Townsend, said Kos was joining during an exciting time for the network.

“At an extremely exciting time for Ten, off the back of the recent ViacomCBS merger, we are further consolidating our presence in the local Perth market.

“10 News First Perth has been a staple for so many West Australians over a long period of time. Having Narelda lead part of this brilliant broadcast team put us in a very fortunate position, but as she tackles new adventures with Studio 10 we are looking forward to having Monika join the team in Perth. Monika brings with her almost 30 years of editorial experience and will be an important addition to an already impressive and successful news team.”

Network director of news content, Ross Dagan, said: “Narelda’s shoes are big to fill, but we’re confident that Monika is the perfect fit. It’s rare to have an opportunity to replace Narelda’s experience with such an outstanding presenter in a market like Perth where I know local knowledge is vital to our audiences.

“Monika knows Perth intimately. She’s been passionate about connecting with the community over almost three decades. Her knowledge and insights into the issues that matter to the people of WA can only add to our exceptional team. Across news, sport and weather we will maintain an incredibly formidable team.”

Jacobs will commence with Studio 10 on 13 January, 2020 and Kos will join 10 News First Perth in January 2020.
