Tokyo 2020 helps Seven’s network share climb above 50% on Wednesday

Three sessions of Seven’s Tokyo 2020 Olympics coverage broke the million metro viewer mark on Wednesday, helping push the network to a 52.3% share across its free-to-air channels.

The Night session, featuring swimming, football and hockey, was #1 in entertainment with 1.364 million metro viewers, and topped all key advertising demos. It followed the Evening session which attracted 1.276 million as the Boomers beat Italy in basketball.

The Afternoon session of Seven’s Olympics coverage also went over a million metro viewers, bringing in 1.046 million.

Seven also took out the primary channel share competition with a 35.9%, as 7mate continued to dominate multi-channels with 11.2%.

Seven News was the #1 program overall on Wednesday, with 1.368 million metro viewers, while Nine News brought in 1.1 million.

In entertainment programming, Seven’s The Chase Australia had 729,000 metro viewers, Nine’s Hot Seat had 551,000 metro viewers and Travel Guides aired to 454,000 metro viewers.

Ten’s The Bachelor continued to struggle, with 360,000 metro viewers, dropping out of the top twenty metro programs altogether and rating below Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell (436,000 metro viewers) and a repeat of Hard Quiz (412,000), both on the ABC.
