Tony Thomas to head marketing at DMG Radio
Marketing heavyweight Tony Thomas, founder of social media agency The Population, which Photon closed late last year, has reemerged as the new group marketing director of DMG Radio, which owns the Nova network and Classic Rock.
Since the closure of The Population, Thomas has been in a three month contract post at Coles as head of advertising and media.
Beofre The Population, Thomas was director of marketing at NineMSN and prior to that spent six years as PepsiCo’s Australasian marketing director.
DMG CEO Cathy O’Connor said: “This is a significant appointment for DMG and marks a new approach to the marketing of our brands. We are thrilled to have attracted such a high calibre marketing professional in Tony, who brings a mix of consumer and digital media marketing experience to the role. I have no doubt his contribution will be invaluable.”
Thomas said: “I have always seen DMG as a creative and innovative company in the media landscape. I’m really excited by the opportunity.”
He will start on August 9.
The new role is the latest move in a big year for DMG which has seen Lachlan Murdoch take a 50% stake in the company, the move away from Nova’s no more than two ads in a row policy and the replacement of Vega with Classic Rock.

Tony welcome aboard mate. I look forward to standing there and nodding my head as though I understand what you’re saying to me! DMG’s a great place to work. Terrific people. You’ll be welcomed with open arms. Sometimes we get free Nandos chicken on a wednesday, it’s all good.

Thanks Merrick. I’ll refrain from the wankie marketing speak if you save me a nandos burger!
Looking forward to working with you.
Cheers Tony
