Triple M Sydney breakfast show dumped after one year

Tomorrow will see the final show aired for the Triple M breakfast trio, MG, Jess & Page, which replaced the Moonman in the Morning show at the start of the year.

In November last year, it was revealed Lawrence Mooney was departing Triple M and his breakfast slot, with legal teams brought into the fold after Mooney was seeking a payout for the one year remaining on his contract.

A settlement between Southern Cross Austereo and Mooney is understood to have been agreed to in April.

“SCA has confirmed today on air that the current 104.9 Triple M Sydney Breakfast show will not return next year,” Mumbrella was told.

“An announcement regarding the Triple M Sydney Breakfast show for 2023 will be made in due course.”

The latest GfK radio survey this month saw the breakfast team slump to a 3.7% share, a 1.2 point drop, falling just below its SCA Sydney stablemate, 2Day FM’s breakfast show which climbed to a 4.2% share.

It has been a tough year for the channel’s breakfast show, which ended last year on a 4.6% share, Mooney’s last survey.

Its Melbourne counterpart, hosted by Marty Sheargold has fared better across 2022, posting a 6.1% share in the most recent survey.
