Tropfest announces call for entries, Toyota signs as sponsor

Film festival Tropfest has opened its call for entries for next year’s event and announced Toyota as a new sponsor.

The festival has also announced the Tropfest Signature Item: an object which must appear in the film to show it was made specifically for Tropfest – which is a balloon.

The winner will also receive $10,000 cash, a trip to Los Angeles for film executive meetings and attention from the Australian film-making community.

John Polson, festival director said: “What started in a café in front of 200 people is now a bonafide international festival – arguably the world’s first global film festival. I love the idea of being able to provide the world’s next hot talent not only with an amazing week of meetings with some of the most influential people in the film world, but with a brand new Toyota. Nice.”

The festival will run for three days to include a film-maker’s symposium, late night screenings and of course the outdoor competition on Sunday 17 February.

Entries close on 3 January.
