TV Wrap: Seven dances all over Nine’s controversial new Warnie miniseries

The first part of Nine’s miniseries Warnie, based on the life of cricket legend Shane Warne, aired to a little more than half a million metro viewers on Sunday, while Seven’s Dancing with the Stars topped entertainment.

Nine’s decision to dramatise Warne’s life attracted criticism from his family when it was announced last year, as Warne’s daughter believed the show to be “disrespectful”. The series brought in 528,000 metro viewers for Nine on Sunday and is set to finish tonight.

Meanwhile, Seven’s Dancing with the Stars was the top entertainment program of the night with 645,000 metro viewers.

MasterChef Australia brought in 460,000 metro viewers, followed by Grand Designs Revisited on ABC with 377,000 metro viewers.

Despite the setback in entertainment, Nine Network managed to top the overall share in overnight with 31.5%. Seven Network followed with 29.5% and managed to secure the most primary channel share of 22.8%.

Nine Network managed to dominate the weekly share (35.5%) for seven days ending 24 June, thanks to State of Origin II and the Ashes Series. Seven Network followed with 26.8%, ABC with 15.1% and Ten with 14.8%.

Nine was the top-rated primary channel of the week with a 21.8% share, and 9Gem was the top-rated multichannel with 8.7%.

In the latest Daily Consolidated 7 Total TV Report for 18 June, Seven News was the #1 program with a Total TV audience of 1.386 million, with a 3% uplift and 37,000 on national BVOD.

Silent Witness on ABC had the biggest uplift of 45%, with a total audience of 627,000 and a national BVOD audience of 77,000.
