On Medium, Broderick wrote: “It’s been almost three years since I was first given the opportunity to join Twitter and a lot has changed since that first welcome Tweet (and I’m not just referencing that old-school, underscore-heavy username).

“I never thought I’d get the opportunity to work for a platform that has such an amazing impact in the world. It’s evolved from the best second-screen for television to the television screen of the future, it’s the easiest way to follow breaking news about what’s happening in the world and it’s full of the funniest, most interesting and entertaining people you could ever follow.”

Broderick is set to join Breakthrough Media, a communications agency and production company designed to address “complex social challenges including extremism, climate change and conflict”, as creative director in Australia.

He joined Twitter in December 2013 from Fremantle Media Australia where he was in charge of social media content and engagement for shows including The X Factor and Australia’s Got Talent.

Broderick said: “Because after three fun years I’ve made the bittersweet decision to leave the nest and take up an exciting new role for another organisation that is making an amazing impact on the world. In a few weeks, I’ll be joining Breakthrough Media as its new creative director in Australia.

“Breakthrough Media builds campaigns and movements to address complex social challenges — including extremism, climate change and conflict — in partnership with governments, communities, businesses and NGOs. It has offices in the UK, Europe, Africa and Middle East and it has now arrived in Australia.

“I’ve always been inspired by the power of great storytelling and I’m excited to work with the team at Breakthrough Media to use storytelling to strengthen society and inspire positive social change.”

Twitter is currently advertising for Broderick’s replacement.
