Vodafone promotes Spotify partnership with UK ad

Vodafone is promoting its partnership with music streaming service with an ad featuring elderly men and women grooving to songs such as Kelis’ “Milkshake”.

The ad was created by RKCR/Y&R in London for Vodafone UK originally, with Vodafone Australia using it to promote the partnership, which gives members signed up to a Red plan a complementary Spotify Premium account, in Australia.

Vodafone head of brand Nilanjan Sarkar said: “It’s great creative. When we saw this, we knew it would resonate with the Australian audience; as music is a universal language. Spotify Premium is a perfect complement to our Vodafone Red plans. Our Red plans include massive amounts of data so customers can stream to their hearts’ content.

“Vodafone customers of all ages will enjoy listening to Spotify Premium’s vast music collection – there’s truly something for everyone, and every mood. This TVC personifies the Vodafone brand, while demonstrating that people of all ages are passionate about music.”

It comes as the pitch for the creative account for Vodafone locally continues, with the shortlist now whittled down to two. It also follows the recent announcement of the departure of CMO Kim Clarke at the end of last month.

The 30-second spot launched last night and will run for several weeks on free-to-air and subscription TV. It will be supported with a 15-second Spotify and Samsung Note 4 offer TV ad which will begin airing on Sunday.
