Wavemaker picks up $20m Allianz account after global pitch

GroupM has been appointed as the global media partner of record for global insurer Allianz Group, with Wavemaker understood to have landed the account in the Australian market.

The incumbent was Publicis Groupe’s Spark Foundry, however Mumbrella understands Publicis did not take part in the global pitch.

It is a significant account in the local market, though to be worth in the realm of $20 million.

Globally, multiple GroupM agencies were selected to service the account on market-by-market basis, with Mindshare set to take on a global remit, and lead two thirds of markets.

It is not the first time the account has been housed within GroupM locally, with Wavemaker’s predecessor MEC appointed by Allianz in 2011.

Of the global appointment, Allianz SE head of global brand management an marketing, Christian Deuringe said: “With the new partnership, we are able to deploy our One-Brand strategy perfectly and connect with our customers in an even more relevant way across the entire customer journey. The new set-up combines the strengths of globally managed strategies with tailored roll-outs in local markets. We also expect significant synergies through more standardized processes and performance measurement.”

He continued: “Millions of people around the world trust Allianz to safeguard their futures for good reason,” added Adam Gerhart, Global CEO for Mindshare. “We’re excited to have the opportunity to help such a respected brand and responsible company harness the power of media to unlock new levels of growth, engagement, and marketing performance.”

Wavemaker AUNZ declined to comment when contacted by Mumbrella.
