Will this creative appointment spark a new age of advertising glory at Publicis?

On this week's Mumbrellacast, is Publicis Groupe ushering in a new age of creativity with the appointment of its first ANZ chief creative officer? Then, WPP's Wunderman Thompson has welcomed its fourth CEO in as many years, elevating Gavin Bain to the top job as Matt Parry returns to Hong Kong. Finally, a panel discussion with iPopulate’s Belinda Lodge, Bullfrog’s Matilda Hobba and Target's Nicole Mandile, breaking down the relevance of International Women's Day in the face of enduring gender inequality.

As Publicis Groupe ANZ signals a renewed investment in creativity with the appointment of its first group chief creative officer, the team asks whether Google’s Dave Bowman will be able to help usher in a new age of advertising glory for the French holding company’s local agency brands.  Bowman first became well known in the industry alongside former creative partner Matty Burton, for his work at Droga5, Whybin\TBWA and then at Special Group Australia as a founding partner, before the pair jumped across to Google. Having spent the last five and half years heading up creative output at Google APAC, first as creative chief, then as head of creativity, he is set to bring an innovative lens to Publicis Groupe, in what the holdco is sure to hope will reinvigorate its waning creative offering.

Then, change is in the air at Wunderman Thompson, as the WPP agency takes the axe to a number of senior management roles. The team considers what the next stage of transformation will look like at the agency, with Meerkats founder Gavin Bain stepping up into the top job as CEO Matt Parry returns to Hong Kong. What does this all say about the success of the 2019 Wunderman and JWT merger, and has the flurry of agency mergers in recent years contributed to the rapid emergence of new indie firms as of late?

Finally, iPopulate’s Belinda Lodge, Bullfrog’s Matilda Hobba and Target’s Nicole Mandile join the podcast for an important discussion about the role of International Women’s Day as every industry continues to face it’s own fight towards equality and inclusion. The panel shares their own experiences, and consider what more can done to create more equitable working environments.
