A YouTube video of a BMX rider performing the world’s first triple back flip for clothing brand Unit has attracted over seven million views.

With the aim of gaining international exposure for the Gold Coast company and rider Jed Mildon, the video received one million views a day in its first week on YouTube, Unit marketing executive David Madigan told Mumbrella.

“The viral success of the video was even better than we could have imagined,” he said.

“Within the first week we had seven million views, it was on the Top Gear Facebook page and we had calls from people in places like Japan and Germany wanting to put it on breakfast shows,” he added.

The video was pushed out through the brand’s PR agency Stella Communications to media and featured on stockists’ websites and Facebook pages along with the brand’s own pages.

A competition was also run on the Unit Facebook page to win a BMX bike frame similar to the one used in the stunt.

Madigan said the video’s popularity has resulted in a “number of strong leads” from offshore distributors and retailers.
