Writers Eliza and Hanna Reilly launch ‘Sheilas’ web series promoting women in history
Writers and directors for both film and television Eliza and Hannah Reilly have launched a new web series Sheilas.
Set to premiere on Tuesday August 21, the web series aims to highlight the overlooked women in Australian history including Nancy Wake, Mary Ann Bugg, Merle Thornton and Fanny Durack.
The four part web series has been funded by Screen Australia under its ‘Gender Matters: Brilliant Stories’ initiative which recognises and supports storytelling by women.
Each episode of Sheilas has been crafted from a feminist perspective and aims to educate young people about the untold Australian history.
“We’re beyond excited to unleash Sheilas onto the internet, and are thrilled with the thought that people might be introduced to badass characters like Nancy Wake or Mary Ann Bugg on their morning commute,” the Reilly sisters said in a statement.
The Reilly sisters created ABC1’s television series Growing up Gracefully and have been featured on ABC’s Radio National, Sydney Comedy Festival, Sydney Writers Festival and ABC TV’s, The Checkout.
As a relative of Captain Ian Garrow DSO I approve of Nancy Wake getting any recognition
