Wunderman Thompson wins three-year contract for the Victorian Department of Justice and Community Safety
Wunderman Thompson Melbourne has won a three-year contract for the Victorian Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) following a competitive pitch.
The agency has been tasked with developing a campaign, which will span the length of the contract, to increase awareness and change the attitudes and behaviour of Victorians around fire safety.
Wunderman Thompson will be working with the strategic communications branch within the DJCS, and collaborating with Emergency Management Victoria, the Country Fire Authority and Metropolitan Fire Brigade to develop the project.
The campaign will launch ahead of summer.
Angela Morris, Wunderman Thompson chief strategy officer, said in a statement: “Victoria is one of the most fire-prone areas in the world and shifts in climate have resulted in Victoria’s fire seasons becoming longer and more severe. This duration and severity combined with a growing urban fringe as Melbourne’s housing footprint expands means that it’s not just rural areas that are at risk. Data showed that perception of personal fire risk was trending lower, so the campaign will create a strong sense of vulnerability to drive re-consideration and action.”
Nick Muncaster, Wunderman Thompson Melbourne partner, added: “It’s hard to imagine a more important campaign in terms of driving widespread attitude and behaviour change amongst all Victorians. We’re very aware of the responsibility that comes with this appointment and look forward to partnering with the DJCS team and its stakeholders to deliver a highly impactful and effective platform.”
In May, Wunderman Thompson won a tender issued by the Western Australian Department of Fire and Emergency Services to fulfil creative agency services.
Wunderman Thompson is a WPP AUNZ agency which was borne out of the merger between J Walter Thompson and Wunderman that came into effect in April this year.
The Fuel Agency has previously made ads for the Victorian government about fire safety.

This surprises us give the insidious nature of the agency. [Edited under Mumbrella’s comment moderation policy] It seems Wunderman Thompson advocates. Interesting.
