X Factor sees off Big Brother in overall ratings, but tables are turned among youth viewers

big brother logoSeven’s X Factor beat Nine’s Big Brother with both shows going head-to-head in their series debuts on Monday night.

The X Factor, which ran from 7.30pm to 9pm, rated a metro audience of 1.633m, according to preliminary overnight ratings from ozTAM.

Big Brother, which ran from 7pm to 9pm, rated 1.309m. Last year, in part thanks to being heavily promoted during the Olympics, it debuted with 1.618m.

The two big launches squeezed Ten’s Masterchef, which rated just 684,000.

Meanwhile, Seven’s reality love search show Please Marry My Boy rated 861,000 in the 9pm slot.

In the key advertising demographics of 16-39 and 18-49 Big Brother beat The X factor. However, the positions were reversed in 25-54.
