Zac Efron, Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne comedy Bad Neigbours tops weekend box office

Bad Neighbours, starring Zac Efron, Seth Rogen and Australia’s Rose Byrne, has knocked The Other Woman out of the Australian weekend box office number one ranking after taking $2.631m across 296 screens on its opening weekend.

The comedy about a couple with a newborn baby being forced to live next door to a fraternity house beat Cameron Diaz’s rom-com The Other Woman, which topped last week’s weekend box office.

The Other Woman took $2.239m across 328 screens over the weekend, taking its total Australian box office to over $14.5m.

The Amazing Spiderman 2: Rise of Electro was pushed into third place despite being screened across 156 more screens than Bad Neighbours. It managed to take $1.354m across 452 screens, taking the Marvel Comics movie’s total Australian box office to $13,569,686.

The Grand Budapest Hotel climbed up a ranking from last weekend, pushing The Lego Movie into fifth place. The Wes Anderson comedy brought in $1.068m across 244 screens compared to The Lego Movie’s $766,662 across 329 screens.

Dystopian adventure Divergent has taken its total Australian box office takings to $9,710,987 after bringing in $536,337 across 220 screens over the weekend.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier continues to approach the $20k mark for total Australian box office takings, having brought in $510,684 across 440 screens.
