Water buffaloes which escaped in Sydney were part of Samsung ad shoot

Water buffaloes that broke free from their handlers this morning in Sydney’s inner west were filming a Korean ad for Samsung.

Images and videos of the two animals roaming the streets of Newtown were shared widely on social media. It is not clear which agency was responsible for the shoot, although Leo Burnett Sydney has told Mumbrella it was not involved, and it was a shoot for the brand’s booming Korean market.

Instagramer sopha_chest shared a film of the animals running down the street.

Filming for the global ad began this morning at Sydney Park, located near St Peters train station at the south end of Newtown’s King Street, when one of the buffaloes broke free, reportedly choosing to run around the park’s oval.

Around this time the second animal broke free before they were both captured and tied up with a rope, which broke, releasing the animals to frolic down Newtown’s King Street.

Fire and Rescue NSW tweeted they had cornered the two animals which had managed to make it to Camperdown, near Missenden Rd, also tweeting they were using ladders and fire fighting equipment to corral the animals into a makeshift pen.
