The Block hits 2.8m for winner announcement

More than 2.8m metro viewers tuned in for Nine’s winner announcement on The Block on Sunday night – a number slightly up on last year. The 2.808m is just ahead of last year’s 2.715m but down on 2011’s 3.089m.

In what is likely to be one of the network’s biggest nights of the year, the auction element of The Block rated 2.606m, while the main grand final show rated 2.132m.

Meanwhile, according to the preliminary overnight ratings from OzTAM, Underbelly: Squizzy’s launch episode, which followed the Block, rated 1.679m. The second episode, which followed immediately afterwards, rated 1.148m.

Seven’s only programmes above 1m were Seven News which rated 1.433m and Sunday Night which rated 1.071m.

Ten’s Masterchef rated 606,000 while BBC period detective drama Ripper Street – which first aired in the UK late last year – rated 579,000.

Nine had a huge 35.6 per cent share of the free to air audience. Seven was a distant second on 18.5 per cent, followed by ABC1 on 11.2 per cent. Ten was on 10.6 per cent.

Meanwhile, 202,000 tuned in for Andrew Bolt’s long awaited interview with Prime Minister Kevin Rudd on The Bolt Report on Sunday morning. The show beat Financial Review Sunday on Nine which rated 189,000.
