2DayFM announces 12-month partnership with Sydney Mardi Gras

Southern Cross Austereo’s 2DayFM has announced a new, returning partnership with the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, with initiatives and executions to roll out across all 50 stations on the wider Hit Network.

The iconic Sydney festival is one of the largest celebrations of the LGBTQIA+ around the globe, and 2DayFM will provide ongoing support for the community across key dates throughout the year.

The Hit Network’s national drive show Carrie and Tommy, will join with listeners to create their own costumes and float for the parade, with help from 2Day FM’s The Morning Crew with Hughesy, Ed and Erin.

Members and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community, late night show Tom and Olly, will be hosting conversations about diversity on their show. Each month, Tom and Olly are set to highlight an artist, comedian, or actor from the community on the show to celebrate their achievements.

Head of the Hit Network, Gemma Fordham, said 2Day FM will be putting resources behind important LGBTQIA+ issues.

“We are very excited about this returning relationship with Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras is Sydney on show to the world and we feel incredibly passionate at 2DayFM about putting what resources we can behind shining a light on important LGBTQIA+ issues and uniting all communities.

“Our on air and behind the scenes teams are synonymous with creating fun so I know we are going to have the best time bringing it all to life.”

Other initiatives to come from the partnership include the creation of a ‘Hit Helpdesk’ – a dedicated hub with resources for old and young, who they can talk to and how they get in touch with them.

In addition, Hit Network entertainment reporter (and Mr Gay Pride 2019 Australia finalist) Justin Hill is set to interview a community ally each month on his The Ally Podcast to highlight what they have done to support the LGBTQIA+ community.

Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras CEO, Albert Kruger, said: “With a rich history of supporting diverse organisations and delivering meaningful work, we are proud to announce our partnership with 2DayFM.

“Throughout the years, 2DayFM, together with the broader Hit Network, has played an active and visible role in supporting our community, amplifying messages of equality through action.

“Its strong equality, diversity and inclusion policies mean that all employees are encouraged to bring their authentic selves to work. This national partnership will allow Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras the opportunity to uplift the voices of our communities, even those in the most regional parts of the country.”

Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras recently announced a partnership with Facebook to launch its viewing events grants program.

In late 2020, OPR was named the strategic communications partner for the Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, assisting the organisation in developing its positioning and narrative as the event evolves in the future.

Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras takes place between 19 February and 7 March 2021.
