2DayFM confirms Rove McManus to broadcast breakfast from Monday week with cohost Sam Frost
The Hit Network’s struggling Sydney radio station 2Day Hit 104.1 has this afternoon confirmed media speculation that Rove McManus will take to the airwaves from Monday week in breakfast.
2DayFM also announced that The Bachelorette Sam Frost would be his cohost, when the pair getting behind the mic on November 9, in what the radio network claimed would be an “inevitably funny radio show”.
The move comes after the station axed previous cohosts Dan and Maz, who were taken off-air last Friday with anchor Michael Christian filling in for the last week.
“I’m so excited to be joining Rove on 2DayFM. He already makes me laugh so much, and is probably the only man, other than Sash, that I’m willing to get out of bed at 4am for,” said Frost.
McManus added: “The first time I met Sam, she laughed one of her trademark snorts and I knew everything was going to be ok. She also managed to put up with my hounding about who won The Bachelorette, and still didn’t tell me despite how much we were hanging out. I’m very pleased that she has accepted my radio rose.”
2DayFM also said the music programming would be “hits and old skool” (sic), along with what it said were the “very popular ‘RnB Fridays’.”
DayFM has struggled since the departure of Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson from the breakfast slot, with the show dropping from first to last in the ratings and the station’s share plummeting.
McManus has been given a generous three year contract, with significant share equity of $350,000 worth shares every six months to help revive the station.

Because having a girl who won a contest that nobody will remember in a few weeks is really going to lift ratings.

What a comedown for Rove, he’s worked for years and is a successful comedian, and now is cost host is reality show contestant…

Sam Frost is actually in the 1% of contestant talent who has cut through and is genuinely interesting, perfect for radio. Good luck to her and Rove.

Who wouldve thought it… breakfast can sink even lower.

Cut through? That’s radio lingo if I’ve ever heard it. She might end up being great but I would have thought after the Sophie Monk Scary Spice debacle hiring people just because we’ve heard of them might not be the best strategy. McManus has hosted a weekend show and done fill ins. So he’s relatively untested as well. They’ll have one of Tokens roster joining the show within three months to give him some one to bounce off.

This is a real slap in the face to all the radio talent out there in Australia, that someone who has been in the spotlight for all of 10 minutes and that her claim to fame is pashing multiple men on national TV is given the number one slot in radio, being Sydney breakfast.
I don’t understand why 2dayFM couldnt relaunch breakfast next year as Dan and Maz featuring Rove???

Calm down everyone. 2DayFM has shown that they are willing to give new breakfast shows the chance to settle in and become a success. They are in no hurry for fast ratings. They are there for the long haul. They want the talent to “grow” on Sydney.
I give them six months.

@Jack – it’s not about being radio talent or not. It’s about putting a star (or 2) in the show to have mass appeal, generate interest and ultimately ratings. No one in Sydney gives a sh*t about Gavo on bush radio, but they will care about a big name like Rove and a rising star like Sam Frost. Especially the demo for this station. Sam is perfect trash mag fodder like Fifi Box, Jackie O and all the others out there, tick!
And… half of the radio talent in Australia came from reality TV.

@JB. You’re correct in terms of generating interest but ratings? Perhaps week one. After that you really need some experience to be good on radio. File next to Princess Mary’s Bridesmaid. Also Fifi Box is really pretty good on radio and while Jackie O is not my cup or tea she’d put the yards in and knows how to keep an audience. It’ll be like Scary Spice, use her to get media attention for the launch then fade her away.

Looks like all the armchair experts are out in force again. Let’s hear what they sound like and the level of entertainment they proved before we all bag them out. They might just surprise you. At least people are interested in Sam Frost and Rove is pretty easy not to hate. I think people will try it out.

This is a big step-down for Rove. Once King of Aussie TV Chatshows to now co-hosting a breakfast show with a reality TV newbie on a failing radio network.

RIP Dan and Maz…their ratings dishonour will never stink up HIt1041 again. In less than 3 hours, Rove McManus will bring honour, humour, hit music and needed Sydney ratings points in this station’s time of need.
May Rove make Hit1041 Sydney double platinum in GfK ratings period 7! They will really need every ratings point they can get. Oh, and bring us the severed head of Alan Jones while we’re at it, so it can be mounted on the studio wall as a trophy and a warning to all Sydney stations that low ratings points will be your downfall…and your end.

Quite a few well loved radio presenters started off on reality TV – Chrissie Swan for example. In an FM morning show it’s about charisma, and Sam has shown that she can keep a top rating TV show afloat based on her charm (and some hunky men).
Give her a chance.

I think its a great way to get amazing launch PR. If they gel and the chemistry starts to work, then this pair is right on the money for the music demographic. I applaud the station for thinking outside the box.
