2GB breakfast newsreader moves to PR

After 20 years on radio, 2GB breakfast newsreader Amie Meehan has jumped across to PR, joining In The Media PR as a campaign director.

Meehan will work on developing strategy with clients and overseeing execution to drive conversations in the media, and meet key targets.

Meehan will also present tailored media training workshops as part of a new offering from the agency. She will work alongside fellow campaign director, Laura Tunstall, who previously spent many years at Nine Entertainment’s 9 News Sydney and A Current Affair.

“I’m excited about this move and joining such an experienced team,” she said.

“I’ll still be using my journalistic skills to tell stories, but in this case helping companies stand out in a media environment that’s often saturated with content and noise.

“The alarm won’t be set to 3.30am anymore but I’ll still be up early. The agency is run like a newsroom with the whole team on deck by 7.30am ensuring client stories are pitched in time for early editorial meetings.

“The continued focus on self and career development, as well as the flexibility provided at In The Media PR, enabling me to work remotely, also attracted me to the role.”

Co-directors Oryana Angel, former Daily Telegraph, The Australian and Qantas magazine journalist, and Janyne Moore, ex-Ray Hadley Morning Show executive producer and newsreader, said Meehan is “a perfect fit” for the team.

“We are different to traditional agencies in that we are a full team of former journalists – we still have the newsroom mindset and we approach our work with that same energy. This really shows in the results we are achieving for our clients,” Angel said.

“PR professionals who really understand the media landscape are more important than ever, particularly as journalists are increasingly time-poor with constant competing deadlines.

“We truly value the experience each team member brings and do our best to cultivate that in a constantly changing media landscape. We also do our best to ensure everyone thrives – both on the client side and for our team at home.”

Meehan joins the agency’s growing team of ex-media professionals, including Sarah Forster, former WSFM breakfast newsreader, ex-Channel 10 Sydney reporter Amna Yang, Ryan Van Haalen, who headed the Sky News Melbourne bureau, and former 2GB breakfast editor Emily Fagan.
