2UE nights host Murray Wilton to leave station
Evenings radio host on Radio 2UE Murray Wilton is to depart the station to take a role with the Royal Agricultural Society.
The announcement:
Veteran broadcaster Murray Wilton has accepted a full time job with the Royal Agricultural Society and will leave 2UE 954 later this year.
The popular Evenings host recently informed station management of his decision to leave radio and take up the position as General Manager – Agriculture at the RAS.
Wilton has spent 26 years in radio, including two long stints at 2UE. Murray has spent time on and off air, working across all shifts and doing everything from promotions and publicity to panelling, marketing and operations.
Murray has been a Councillor with the RAS since 2003 and says the opportunity to join them in a full time role was simply too good to pass up.
“This is literally my dream job,” he said. “The love of the land is in my blood. It’s in the Wilton DNA. When I’m not working behind the microphone I’m on my farm or riding dirt bikes with my two sons. I come from a family of sheep producers so I’ve always had a connection to country life.
“To be able to work in a senior executive position with the RAS is a life changing moment for me.
“I’ll very much miss 2UE. It’s a great station and it’s been a fantastic place to work – twice.”
“I’ll be saying farewell but not goodbye forever. I’ve already told station management that I’d like to occasionally
‘fill the hot seat’, covering shifts from time to time.“I look forward to coming back on air in some way, shape or form when time permits.
Content Director Clinton Maynard described Murray Wilton as a larger than life character and an outstanding
broadcaster.“He’s one of the absolute best at his craft,” Mr Maynard said.
“He has a genuine warmth and honesty and he makes a real connection with our listeners. He’s a terrific personality and we wish him all the best in his new career away from the microphone.
“Murray and I have already discussed future opportunities for him to fill in in the future. I look forward to seeing him around the studio from time to time,” Mr Maynard said.
A decision on a fulltime replacement host will be made shortly.

I agree with the above comments, hopefully the replacement will be someone such as the intelligent, informative and witty Mike Jeffreys, who was our 2CC presenter in Canberra for many years. Mike Smith or David Oldfield would also be an excellent choice, they are both well educated in political and current affairs and listeners want to be informed.

Maybe one completely out of left field could be Luke Grant, did well as a night presenter in Melbourne considering overall poor station ratings at MTR. Thorough in his opinions, but fair in giving people a chance to speak.
2ue couldn’t do any worse……

Yeah bring back Oldfield we need to hear more about muslims and boat people, and Mike/ Michael Jeffreys would be great to cure my insomnia…lol

Mike Jeffreys, David Oldfield, anyone who has a broad knowledge of current events and political issue. Not just a fill in we need good hosts with intelligence at this time of a night.

While Murray is obviously a nice bloke, his show was boring. Bring back someone with wit and intelligence… Clive Robertson is my pick.
