Winc appoints former James Hardie marketing director as CMO

Office supplies company Winc Australia has appointed former James Hardie Building Products’ marketing director George O’Neil to the newly created role of chief marketing officer.

At James Hardie, O’Neil was responsible for rebuilding the company’s reputation following a widespread asbestos scandal, having joined the building supplies company from Unilever in 2015.

Former James Hardie marketer, George O’Neil, joins Winc as CMO

Winc rebranded from Staples earlier this year, after the Australian and New Zealand operations of the US office supplies chain was acquired by private equity investors.

Darren Fullerton, Winc’s chief executive officer, said in a media statement: “The creation of the chief marketing officer role is a testament to how serious we are about building our fresh new brand and giving our customers the best possible experience when they shop with us online.

“The Winc digital business model is one of the longest and most successful eCommerce businesses across Australia and as part of George’s remit, he will lead a transformation program that will re-invent this and allow us to get closer to our customers than ever before.

“Along with announcing O’Neil’s appointment, the company has also launched a new online campaign titled ‘Jeanette: Office Detective’, a six part online series that will run through January and February that takes a lighthearted look at ‘mysteries’ that happen in the workplace.”
