We Are Moving Stories launches to promote new voice in the film and video industries
Online platform We Are Moving Stories launched today to promote new voices in the video and movie industries.
The announcement;
New Aussie online platform to fund change, promotes over 50% women filmmakers
In a worldwide first a new online platform called We Are Moving Stories will fund change and promote over 50% women’s participation in film.
“Coming quickly on the heels of the #metoo movement which exposed the ugly side of Hollywood’s sexual harassment epidemic this platform is a good news story,” said Founder Dr Carmela Baranowska
The first campaign will raise money for Melbourne based Project Respect. It will pay for intensive one-on-one support for women trafficked into Australia for sexual exploitation. See: http://www.wearemovingstories.com/causes-we-are-currently-supporting/project-respect
Project Respect is a support and referral service for women in the sex industry and women trafficked for sexual exploitation. It is also the only specific service in Australia that provides support for women who have been trafficked for sexual exploitation.
Once the supporter makes a donation of AUD30 s/he can watch Daughter, a short film starring Golden Globe nominated Australian actress Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why) over a 3 week period.
Daughter, an award-winning film directed by Australian director Sarah Jayne, explores the way women are viewed in society by following three female characters on a Friday night out in St Kilda. The main themes explored in the film are violence against women and victim blaming.
“Be inspired, said Dr Baranowska. “Watch this film. Be the voice. Tell three friends. Begin a new conversation about women. Be the change. Thank you!”
We Are Moving Stories also continues as an online platform promoting new voices in drama, documentary, animation, web series. women’s films, LGBTIAQ+, scifi, horror and world cinema. With over 1500 profiles there is now more than 50% women’s participation – an industry record.
