Shane Warne confirmed for Fox Sports cricket commentary team
Fox Sports has confirmed that it has signed former spinner Shane Warne to its cricket commentary team.
The former test match great will join a commentary lineup for the subscription TV broadcaster that also includes Adam Gilchrist, Mark Waugh, Mike Hussey, Mel Jones, Michael Vaughan, Isa Guha, Allan Border and Brendon Julian.
Warne said in a statement: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining the amazing team that Fox Sports has put together. It’s a significant time for Australian cricket, and to have a team like this covering the game is really important. To be part of it, and what lies ahead, is something I’m really excited about.
“For fans to have their own cricket channel, backed by a great team Fox has built, is going to revolutionise coverage in Australia. It’s an exciting time for the game.”
The announcement is the final big missing piece for Foxtel’s cricket lineup since the News Corp-owned broadcaster won the bidding for the cricket broadcasting rights in a six-year-$1bn-deal, which also saw free to air rights shift from Nine to Seven.
Warne is one of the few survivors of Nine’s commentary team to make the move to the new cricket broadcasters.
Last week Seven announced Ricky Ponting as a member of its commentary team.
Warne, Mark Waugh and Michael Vaughan behind a pay TV firewall? Yippee! As a free to air viewer only I am looking forward to a summer without any of them on my screen 🙂
