6PR sacks Howard Sattler for Gillard questions
Veteran 6PR presenter Howard Sattler has been dismissed by the Perth radio station over his controversial interview with Prime Minister Julia Gillard.
During an interview yesterday, Sattler questioned the sexuality of Gillard’s partner Tim Mathieson.
The Fairfax Media-owned station tonight issued the following statement:“During an interview on the Drive Program yesterday, presenter Howard Sattler pursued a line of questioning with Prime Minister Julia Gillard that was disrespectful to the office and person of the Prime Minister and was entirely inappropriate.
Typical low quality Sattler, showing why his attempts at a career in his hometown of Sydney failed.

I would like to place it on the record that I am ashamed to be a male after the disgraceful actions of this odious grub and others that have made the news in the last fortnight.
So this individual slithers to a lawyer demanding a hearing for “unfair dismissal” – you sir are a disgrace. Kudos to Fairfax for making a stand if only the same actions were made against other odious individuals such as Ray Hadley and Allan Jones.

Surely evidence of Fairfax’s continuing slide is the employment of a shock jock like Sattler.
Sattler was an idiot for making the comments but I am very uncomfortable how the lynch mob mentality on social media works to sack someone. An apology would have been acceptable but sacking someone so easily over a stupid comment made in error is sickening.
@Daniel don’t be so damned silly. Ridding the airwaves of idiots like Sattler is a necessity for a decent society and we should be thankful we have social media to assist in the process. An to counter people with a medieval point of view.

Free speech comes with responsibilities, one of which is to learn the difference between comment and abuse. Abuse of free speech of the sort practiced by Sattler and his much higher rating, and unfortunately more powerful peers. You may find this distinction difficult but do the world a favour and try and grasp it.
He didn’t say it in error, and he’s certainly not apologising. Quite the opposite.
People need to toughen up and not be so sensitive. Now, 3AW presenter has been forced to apologise for making it sound like she was criticising Nigella LAwson after receiving tirades from the Twitterati universe. We are heading down a slippery path where we will be unable to say anything for fear of being sued or sacked.

Groucho, Howard Sattler is a broadcastr earning big bucks. Any freshed faced student out of radio college would not have asked such a stupid question. JG is the PM, now go and ask your boss that and se what the result is. Howard needs to realise he is in the entertainment business. He deserved the result, he should understand the regulations of broadcasting in Australia.
