Incendies wins Adelaide film fest prize
Denis Villeneuve’s film Incendies has won the Adelaide Film Festival’s award for Best Feature Film, with a special jury mention going to Matthew Bate’s Shut Up Little Man! An Audio Misadventure.
Villeneuve will receive a cash prize of $25,000, sponsored by Ten Evening News. The director said he will name one of the main characters in his next project’ Adelaide’, “as a poetic sign of gratitude”.
The Quebec film was also one of the five nominated for the Academy Award, losing to Denmark’s In A Better World.
“A film that tells an urgently contemporary story comparable to a classic tragedy using an innovative film language and relying on strong performances and dazzling cinematography,” said jury president and former programming director for the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, Julieta Sichel.
About Shut Up Little Man!, Sichel said the documentary’s “witty and inventive style” marks the emergence of an “exciting talent”.
