72andSunny to launch first Australian office in Sydney

Global full-service independent agency 72andSunny is set to launch an office in Australia, Mumbrella understands.

The agency, which currently has offices in New York, Los Angeles and Amsterdam, is in Australia on a hiring spree ahead of opening an office in Sydney.

Mumbrella understands former BMF managing partner Chris Kay, currently managing director and head of brand management for the agency in Los Angeles, will return to Australia to run the local outpost while The Monkey’s strategy director Mollie Hill is understood to be among the agency’s first hires.

Kay has also worked with TBWA in London before joining US-based creative agency Fallon when it launched in the UK. He then moved to Manchester City Football Club as head of marketing.

72andSunny founder and creative co-chair Glenn Cole will be in Australia at the end of May to judge AWARD, the creative awards program for industry body The Communications Council, but the agency is expected to open its doors before his arrival.

The agency’s current clients include Carlsberg, ESPN, Starbucks, Adidas and Call of Duty.

However, the agency is most well-known for its work on Samsung phones, which helped the brand market its phone product to become the number one phone device ahead of the Apple iPhone.

Mumbrella understands the launch of the office is currently underway.

Last year, former Droga5 CEO Sudeep Gohil joined 72andSunny’s Los Angeles office as group strategy director.

72andSunny has been approached for comment.
