ABC News 24 starts streaming live on social media sites

ABC News 24News channel ABC News 24 today began streaming live on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter in what the national broadcaster is describing as an Australian first. Viewers can watch live news at dedicated Youtube channel while non-commercial Australian users can also embed the live feed into a web page.

ABC News 24 Controller Gaven Morris said in a press release: “Now when news breaks, viewers can watch rolling news unfold live without leaving their social networks.  They can tweet, post comments, and share live events with contacts and friends while continuing to watch ABC News 24 in the same browser window.”

The broadcaster claims that its existing YouTube channel currently receives an average of one million views per month. Its recent most viewed piece of content was the footage of the speech by PM Julia Gillard in which she referred to Opposition Leader Tony Abbott as a misogynist in Parliament. The clip has been viewed well over two million times.
