ABC kids commissioning boss to work from Canada
The boss of commissioning and development of children’s shows at the ABC Carla de Jong has relocated to Canada, where she is to do her job remotely.
According to an internal email from de Jong obtained by Mumbrella’s sister title Encore, she will be working from Toronto “for the coming months” due to personal reasons.
In the email, she said: “For many of you who work with me remotely already, this will not be a great change and I will be returning to Australia when necessary for meetings and events.”
At the time of posting, the ABC had not responded to Encore’s inquiry’s about whether the broadcaster would be covering the cost of de Jong commuting from Canada for meetings.
She has already left her office at the ABC’s Ultimo headquarters. She will be at her desk in Toronto from April 11.
De Jong joined the ABC two years ago. She previously worked for the BBC and Network Ten.

Can we expect even more Canadian content on ABC Kids, then?

@ Peggy – could almost guarantee it! Maybe she will then spend a year “for personal reasons” in NZ and we can get more of their kids stuff too.
Bad HR move ABC.
Surely someone fill in for six months while she deals with her personal issues? Surely she is not indispensible? If so, make her less so and then let her go.

Aussie kids should learn the dangers of Frostbite, Polar Bear attacks and yellow snow.
While learning the joys of Harvesting Maple Syrup, Snow Shoeing and Swimming in frigid waters.
