ABC to launch new kids channel with simulcast
The ABC is to go all out to push it’s new digital TV channel for kids ABC3, including a simulcast with ABC1 on its December 4 launch.
The ABC will be the first of the free to air networks to launch a third digital channel.
Seven was last to launch a second channel, finally doing so at the beginning of this month with general entertainment channel 7Two, although it has signalled that its third channel will follow next year.
Of the main commercial networks, Ten was the first to market with its sports channel One, while Nine followed with entertainment channel Go.
However, although some Ten/ One sports content has crossed over, none of the commercial channels have used a simulcast as a means of driving takeup in the way that the ABC is planning.
