ABC1’s new Wednesday night line up performs for Aunty

While Seven again dominated last night’s TV ratings it was a strong performance by ABC1’s line-up which was a notable point.

Aunty had six of the top 20 programs, again bumping Ten to fourth for the night in the five capital cities.

Led by the 7pm news bulletin, which out-scored both Today Tonight and A Current Affair, 7.30, QI, Shock Horror Aunty, The Agony Of Life and Minuscule all performed to give the national broadcaster a solid 11.2 per cent share, ahead of Ten’s 9.5 per cent.

But it was – once again – Seven’s juggernaut My Kitchen Rules which dominated the night, crossing the two million mark again, according to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTAM.

Not even Nine’s Twenty20 cricket match – a dominator in previous years – could dent the cooking show, although the saturation of cricket this season appears to be wearing down viewer appetite at this late stage when the Australian A-team is already touring India.

Home and Away proved its durability to be the fifth most watched program of the night.

Movie The Proposal on Seven was the eighth most watched program of the night, and even stronger in the 16-49 demographic. It was the second most watched program in that age group.

Nine’s The Block: All Stars also did well at fourth in 18-49s and fifth in 16-39s while Home and Away was in the top five in both demographics.

The cricket was also in the top five in those demos.

In the key demos, Ten moved back ahead of the ABC.

Overall Seven had a 36.1 per cent share of the 16-39 demographic to Nine’s 22.1 per cent, ABC1’s 5.3 per cent, Ten’s 13 per cent and SBS1’s 4.2 per cent.

Seven also led the 18-49 demographic with 34.1 per cent,  Nine next on 23.5 per cent, Ten on 12.5 per cent, ABC1 6.9 per cent and SBS1 2.6 per cent.
