ABC’s At Home With Julia pulls in over 1m

The debut of the ABC’s comedy series At Home With Julia, a send-up of Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s life behind closed doors, received an audience of over 1 million viewers last night.

The first episode of the four-part series fetched 1.066 million, according to preliminary metro ratings from OzTam.

There was a mixed reaction amongst Twitter users with some praising the show and others slamming it. @Steph_Philbrick Tweeted, “I really, really wanted to dislike #AtHomeWithJulia but some of its political commentary has caught me off guard :),” while @CrowEating said “#AtHomeWithJulia Labor plot to make her look good? No, ABC attempt at a sitcom. Not British or American humour, I’d call it Canberran comedy.”

The show aired at 9:30 following The Gruen Transfer at 9 which pulled in 1.164 million.

Spicks & Specks at 8:30 also edged over the 1 million mark and ABC News pulled in 942,000.

The presence of the four shows in the top 10 lead ABC1 to a second place share of 15.7% behind Seven’s 24.9%.
