ABC’s Media Watch host to depart this year

ABC has confirmed that Media Watch host Paul Barry will depart the public broadcaster at the end of the year.

On Thursday, Barry announced that 2024 will be his last season on the media commentary programme after 11 years in the presenter chair.

“It’s a great privilege to host Media Watch and I’ve enjoyed it enormously,” Barry said in a statement given to Mumbrella.

“But I’ve been in the hot seat for 11 years and it’s time to give someone else a go. Thanks to all our viewers. I’ll be with you until December. And I’m sure the program will go on to great things without me.”

Barry first hosted Media Watch in 2000 and returned as host in 2013, replacing Jonathan Holmes.

Barry joined ABC in 1986 before moving to the Four Corners program between 1987 and 1994, where he worked as an investigative reporter.

ABC told Mumbrella that it intends to announce a new host for the show later this year.
