Aboriginal Victoria launches second iteration of Deadly Questions campaign

Clemenger BBDO and Aboriginal Victoria have launched the second iteration of its Deadly Questions campaign where Aboriginal Victorians provide answers to some of the most commonly asked questions.

The announcement:

Aboriginal Victoria and Clemenger BBDO Melbourne launch next phase of ‘Deadly Questions’, providing answers to Victoria’s questions Aboriginal Victoria and Clemenger BBDO Melbourne have unveiled the next phase of Deadly Questions, with Aboriginal Victorians providing answers to some of the most commonly asked questions.

The next iteration of Deadly Questions follows the passage of the Advancing the Treaty Process with Aboriginal Victorians Act 2018 through Parliament in June. The Act provides a roadmap for the next stage of the Treaty process, including the establishment of an Aboriginal Representative Body to help design a framework for treaty negotiations.

With more than 2600 questions submitted to the website since launch, the creative focusses on members of the Victorian Aboriginal community providing responses to the most commonly asked questions, including:
– What do you hope a Treaty will mean?
– What will a Treaty mean for Victorians?
– What will a Treaty mean for Aboriginal people?
– What’s a Treaty in your opinion?
– Why is self-determination important to Aboriginal people?

Josh Smith, Executive Director at Aboriginal Victoria and a Dunghutti man, said,

“The response we had to the launch of Deadly Questions has been fantastic. The campaign is about amplifying the voices of Aboriginal Victorians and sharing their stories. It’s provided an important avenue for non-Aboriginal and Aboriginal Victorians to engage in meaningful discussion as we move towards Treaty.”

Evan Roberts, Executive Creative Director at Clemenger BBDO Melbourne, added, “We’re thrilled with how the campaign has gone so far. Our task now is to create a dialogue about what a Treaty will mean for us all and do that in a way that moves beyond the digital platform.”

Victorians can continue to ask their Deadly Questions or view the responses to current questions at deadlyquestions.vic.gov.au.
