Adland turns out for cerebral palsy fundraiser CBD Golf Escape, raising a record $1.95m

Sintras TajerAdland has once again turned out for cerebral palsy fundraiser the CBD Gold Escape, with the event this year raising a record $1.95m.

One of the media’s biggest annual charity fundraisers, the CBD Golf Escape, held this weekend in the Hunter Valley, saw more than 600 people involved in the golf event, which brought together media and media agencies in a fundraiser where major outlets donated advertising packages which media buyers then sell to their clients at full cost.

“As we know, the media industry is a fiercely competitive landscape,” said Henry Tajer, global CEO of IPG Mediabrands, “It is wonderful that we can come together in solidarity and harness our strengths and dynamism in a way that serves the broader community.”

This year saw media outlets such as the Seven Media Group, Nine Entertainment, Ten Network, Fairfax, News Corp Australia, Bauer Media, MCN, ARN, Nova, APN Outdoor, oOH Media, Adshel, JC Decaux, Prime, WIN/NBN, Southern Cross Austereo, SBS Two, Facebook and Radio 2GB all involved in the event.

The 2015 CBD Gold Escape was hosted by Today show host Karl Stefanovic, has had singer Jessica Mauboy perform.

“One of the biggest challenges and worries, which I know only too well as a parent of a teenager with cerebral palsy, is your child getting a job and career,” said John Sintras, Australian chairman of the Starcom MediaVest Group.

“Sadly, the reality is that almost 60 per cent of people with a disability are unemployed, and nearly half live in or near poverty.”

Now it in 21st year the event estimates it has raised $12m over the last two decades.

“Every 15 hours, an Australian child is born with cerebral palsy,” said Rob White, CEO of the Cerebral Palsy Alliance. “It’s the most common physical disability in childhood and there’s approximately 34,000 people are living with CP in Australia at a cost of $1.47bn per year.
