Adshel tackles bus shelter vandalism
Outdoor media company Adshel has launched a design campaign to reduce the amount of vandalism on bus shelters.
The announcement:
Adshel, Australia’s largest street furniture advertising company, is tackling bus shelter vandalism head-on by calling on students to join the fight for clean and safe bus shelters.
Adshel is calling on design students across the country to enter the Adshel Anti-Vandalism Challenge, a creative competition to design a poster campaign that discourages vandalism and encourages more productive pursuits among 14- to 25-year-olds.
The winning design will form an outdoor advertising campaign in April 2011, coinciding with the Easter holiday. For students, the initiative is a great opportunity to gain real-word media experience, including working on a brief, dealing with deadlines and producing a cohesive message, as well as gaining recognition among other creative students and contributing to a social cause.
The winner will see their concept displayed on bus shelters nationally and will receive a return air ticket to a bus shelter of their choice in any Australian city.
As part of its outdoor advertising agreements with councils around the country, Adshel provides, cleans and maintains bus shelters at no cost to the community. Unfortunately, graffiti and vandalism to bus shelters cause millions of dollars of damage each year and affect community environment. The Anti-Vandalism Challenge aims to tackle this problem with a new and inclusive approach.
“Vandalism to our shelters is an issue we take very seriously as we strive to provide the best possible service to local councils and communities. We decided to ask for support from design students because we feel they may have valuable insight and a fresh take on this issue,” said Elvira Lodewick, Adshel marketing director Australia & New Zealand.
The competition closes on 11 March. Submissions will be judged by a panel of experts including a respected graphic designer.
