Advertising and marketing industry expected to gain thousands of new positions in next decade

As National Skills Week begins, new data reveals a rising demand for skilled workers, with approximately 11,000 advertising and marketing positions expected to be added between 2024 and 2033.

According to Jobs and Skills Australia, the professional, scientific, and technology services sector is projected to see the creation of a total of 240,000 new jobs.

Employment in professional, scientific, and technical services has also surged by more than 35,000 jobs, reflecting the increasing demand for skilled professionals.

Moreover, around half of new jobs in the next ten years are expected to require a bachelor’s degree or higher qualification.

TAFE NSW’s International Student of the Year, Thi Thanh Hoa Nguyen, is part of a growing pipeline of professional workers emerging from its degree programs.

Hoa moved from Vietnam to study for a Bachelor of Business at TAFE NSW.

“The diverse subjects and insights from industry experts deepened my understanding of business dynamics and gave me practical skills in areas like project management, strategic thinking, and digital data analytics, providing a strong foundation for my career,” she said.

“The small class sizes provided a supportive environment, and the course coordinators and lecturers, who are industry experts, were genuinely invested in my success. I transformed from a shy, quiet student into a confident, well-spoken professional, thanks to the regular presentations, class discussions, and group projects throughout the program.”

Since graduating, Hoa has been offered a job as a marketing officer at the same organisation where she did her work placement.

Running from 19 to 25 August 2024 and in its 14th year, National Skills Week raises the profile and status of vocational learning by providing attractive career opportunities.

With the average Australian changing employers every 3.3 years and the jobs market rapidly evolving, the week is key in educating people of all ages about how vocational education and training can empower them to pursue exciting career pathways.
