AFFINITY acquires new general manager from Accenture Song

Full-service agency AFFINITY has unveiled its new general manager (GM) – a strategy and marketing expert with more than 25 years of experience.

On Wednesday, the Sydney-based agency announced that Gavin Sommer is taking on the GM position after stepping away from his role as senior digital marketing director – digital engagement lead principal at Accenture Song.

Prior to that, Sommer undertook several marketing and leadership roles in organisations, including Clemenger BBDO, DDB Group Australia, Menulog, Spark44, and more – experiences that made him an expert in retention marketing, customer acquisition, brand and retail strategy.

With his role at AFFINITY, Sommer is expected to leverage his leadership and agency strategy knowledge to offer mentorship and bolster the team’s ongoing development.

“At AFFINITY, I’m excited to apply my expertise to drive growth and innovation,” Sommer said.

“My passion lies in empowering teams to achieve strategic transformation and drive sustainable business growth.”

When commenting on Sommer’s hiring, AFFINITY’s group chief executive officer (CEO), Luke Brown, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Gavin Sommer to our team… with his exceptional background in both strategy and execution, we are confident that he will play a pivotal role in advancing our mission to accelerate growth and deliver unparalleled value to our clients.”

According to Angela Smith, AFFINITY’s CEO, Sommer’s addition to the agency’s employee roster comes at a pivotal time when the company is about to supercharge its growth with new clients.

“With some new relationships with ambitious, like-minded clients about to kick off, this year is looking incredibly positive and the perfect time to have found Gavin to take ownership of this leadership role,” Smith said.

“Our collective focus will be on breaking down the old/current paradigm of agencies being largely for ads and ‘colouring in’,” she added before continuing, “instead, we hope to continue to lead the way in redefining what can be achieved through delivering effective marketing strategies that maximise the relative potential of both creativity and technology.”
