AFL delivers Seven a Friday night TV ratings win

The AFL clash between Sydney Swans and Collingwood along with The Chase Australia and Better Homes and Gardens delivered a solid win for Seven in the Friday night TV ratings.

Across the five metro cities, the AFL topped the night’s non-news programs with 602,000 viewers, stablemates The Chase and Better Homes and Gardens recorded 551,000 and 519,000 respectively.

Despite the Swans playing in the Friday night AFL game, Sydney audiences were still indifferent to the coverage with only 60,000 tuning in with 207,000 of the city’s residents preferring the NRL, accounting for over half of the Rugby League’s total metro audience of 350,000.

In the 18-49 and 25-54 age demographics, the AFL topped the evening slightly ahead of Seven’s and Nine’s programs which were the most watched shows of the night.

On the strength of its AFL, news and entertainment shows, Seven’s main channel took a 24.2% share of the night’s audience ahead of Nine’s 16%, Ten’s 11.2% and the ABC’s 9.5%. SBS took 4.1% of the viewers.

In Network share, Seven took 38.1% of the day’s audience, well ahead of Nine’s 26.0% and Ten 19.9%. The ABC and SBS snared 14.% and 7.6% of the night’s viewers.
