AFL helps Seven to Friday night ratings win
Friday Night Football helped Seven to a comfortable ratings win last night.
Last night’s 23% audience share for Seven was well ahead of Nine’s 16.2%, Ten’s 11.7% and ABC’s 9%, according to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTam.
The strong performance means that although Nine has led the entire week for progressive share, its lead has now been virtually overhauled as the networks enter the final day of the ratings week.
Nine’s advantage over Seven has now been cut down to just 0.3 ratings points – a lead of 19.1% of the progressive Sunday to Friday share compared to Seven’s 18.8%. Ten is third on 16%.
Tonight sees Nine repeat Monday night’s first live episode of The Voice over a two-and-a-half hour slot while Seven is building its hopes around actor Will Smith, airing Men In Black 3 and Bad Boys 2.
Yesterday’s top show in Melbourne was Seven’s AFL cliffhanger featuring North Melbourne and Hawthorn, which rated 448,000 in the city. The game rated a further 116,000 in Adelaide, making it the city’s second most watched program of the night.
In Sydney, Brisbane and Perth, Seven shifted its AFL to 7Mate, delivering a further 167,000 viewers.
Meanwhile, Nine’s Friday Night NRL Live was the most watched show in Sydney, with 275,000 viewers tuning in for South Sydney Rabittohs match against Parramatta Eels. A further 144,000 watched the game in Brisbane.
Meanwhile the most watched program of the night overall was Seven News, which rated 989,000.
In the battle of breakfast, Seven’s Sunrise had a comfortable win over Nine’s Today by 334,000 to 288,000.
